Why Digital Citizenship?
As a society, we have faced the biggest change in the way we function in the shortest amount of time. The backbone of these changes are from technology.
This brings challenges of adapting our instruction, awareness level and skills, to students in a meaningful, current and safe manner. Terms like digital footprint, data privacy, social media and stress, screen time, cyber bullying and many others are part of our world now unlike 10-20 years ago. |
Parents are just as ill prepared and experienced (understandably so) as we are. There are many unknowns of where our technology will go and the changes that will continue to take place.
Taking a little bit of time to bring a unified message on safe and effective technology use will better prepare ourselves as teachers and our students for what lies ahead both personally and professionally. |
Goals of this project
I want these lessons to be a taste of what we need to aim for as professionals. I'm not expecting drastic changes for everyone, but for those who feed the desire to do so. I want to challenge each of you to think about the lessons, the tools used to deliver the content and the main ideas on how you can apply them to your everyday classes. This unit is designed with 5 key goals in mind. |
GOALS
1. To help staff see and experience a sample of current topics in digital citizenship today 2. Offer short, prep free lessons and activities to deliver to students on assigned "Wellness Wednesdays" during SS. 3. Deliver each lesson with a quick and simple digital tool to use to encourage staff to learn and adapt new software that works for them. 4. Create a resource that can be used in the future as needed. 5. Create a foundation where staff can be on the same page with digital expectations for students. |
What I ask of you (please)
Use the prepared lessons on the assigned Wednesdays.
Provide quick feedback (4 items) after each lesson to provide feedback for me.
Ask for help or advice on expanding any of the ideas in the lessons. That applies for the tools used or the content itself.

Consider this...In the modern workplace we are usually tasked with learning a small handful of skills and tools to use well. If each student had 3 different websites to use in each class over the school year, that would lead to a total of...
Even non-tech jobs require some digital literacy. |
